Finally got an Alum servo horn. Also started soaking the stock wheels last night in acetone to switch out to some wider & slightly heavier beadlocks I got in a box of freebies my buddy sent. Seemed to work well they came apart pretty easily this morning, only could fit two at a time in the paint can so I let the remaining two start to soak while I'm at work today. Also put in some metal drive shafts that were included in the box. I am trying to keep any weight I add to be un-sprung weight to keep a LCOG.

Switched out the stock wheels for some cheap free beadlocks and am trying out what ever foam was in the gifted tires. Seems to be much denser like a yellow memory foam vs. the stock blk foam. Its got a much wider stance and seems more stable. Is there any concerns I need to have for running too wide of an offset on my tires and wheels?

My stock susp was a little stiff too, so I drove it off a cliff a couple of times and that seemed to soften it up a bit.

I have bound it many times, and reset the esc too. (I work at MHS) With new software. The end points on the radio all all set right. I just don't get the top end speed I did with the stock radio. Does any one have other ideas?

So I think my servo went out on me. It will make a left turn but when I release the turning wheel it gets stuck there and makes a humming noise.

What do you all recommend to replace it with?

Seems like this is a pretty good deal:

the 5955 is a Great servo and a better deal at that price. You wont find that servo cheaper anywhere guaranteed !! And it is likely to go off sale any minute.
I would say if you need a servo - better buy it soon.

Looks like a great place to crawl but my wraith electronics cost too much to run it through water.

ace138

Look at it like a 1000 watt sound system on a stock alt and battery. When the bass hits hard, the lights dim cause the charging system can't keep up with the demand. Well on an RC, when the servo draws more than the ESC can supply, it affects the throttle.

Anyone got a wiring diagram of how I should setup my BEC for the HiTec 5995 in my wraith. There are tons of pics out there but not sure which one to use?

Edit:
THis is what a buddy sent me, but doesn't really make sense to me. Why is it better to cut the connections and abandon some wires all together.

bbking9
06-29-2012, 10:30 PM
That is a good diagram. But do not CUT the wires - just pull them out of the connector and tape it off. If you ever want to sell it - the wires will still be there.

ace138
06-29-2012, 10:35 PM
from the Wraith Forum on Rccrawler.com

Standard stock setup WITH BEC.
Note that you need to pull the red wire out of the plug from the ESC so that you do not burn up the internal BEC in the ESC. Just pull it back and tape it, you will need to be able to reconnect it to program it via a Castle link or Hotwire if your ESC is compatible with that (stock ESC can use a Castle link).http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p56/jtbusa/Wiring-Diagram_Wraith.jpg

Hey guys, I scouted both spots out earlier this year, the top spot is really nice the rocks are a little shaky they are big but haven't been there long so haven't settled, it's set at a decline, and yes plenty of parking, I ran my 2.2 comp berg there 2 times not really sure how scalers and wraiths will do.

The bottom spot is about 1 mile for the other, not much parking available since the business by there is gated and you have to walk a short distance, when I scouted it I kinda got some not so friendly looks from the guard at the gate acces so just be aware.

I am not trying to discourage you guys going out there just want to give you guys a heads up before you guys head out there(to the bottom spot), the top is not guarded and when I spoke to a worker in one of the businesses he said that it was open and no one would be ran off, but not sure on the bottom spot as I didn't stay and ask the guard there.

Hope this all helps, I would like to go out there and meet you guys if you all go out there I hope I can make it.

bbking9
07-09-2012, 11:38 PM
Im up for a run on the "top spot" when everyone is available.

What Id really like to find is some "natural" crawl spots that have some transition
spaces between crawls. I know we arent in Austin - but there has to be some spots like this around - Like Murrell before it went underwater.

All the man-mad spots are just huge rock after huge rock.

Hope this makes sense.

bbking9

im wondering if we even need to go to the spot with the guard since the other is a no hassle crawl spot.

You can see below how close they are, not sure if it's a mile but they are close

You can see in this picture that parking isn't an issue for either spots. I went on a weekend and didn't have any trouble with security but who knows what it is like on a weekday. Or heck they could have been on break when I was there.

Did the axle shaft swap and got the CMS mount in place, just waiting on new steering linkage (VP) before moving the servo up. The Hot Racing steering binding up when I was trying to use their high clearance knuckles. So hopefully all will go together easily this time.

Had a buddy over this weekend for some grilling & chillin, while he was here he ran is wraith around my back yard was kinda cool watching others try out the stuff I "built". He got owned on the Dog house climb, guess homefield advantage really comes into play. :SpicyPBJ:

I switched my shafts this weekend but the stock motor is still getting too hot. Do you think its because of the stress that occurred (starting smoking) before I switched the shafts? I'd like to get it all fixed before I put in my Holmes Torque Master pro and have that burn up too.

I am running stock internals. Forgive my ignorance but what would that (20t pinon) improve? I am trying to learn as much as possible about these R/C's but have yet to even start with Spur gears & pinions.

 As always I really appreciate your help & guidance.

Sh0rtBus
08-14-2012, 11:13 AM
I believe the RTR comes with a 20T pinion anyway if I'm not mistaken. Could just use that. Honestly, though, I'd probably switch to 32 pitch gears to keep from stripping spur gears in a bind. I forget what the formula is to convert from 48p to 32p, but as long as you keep the 4:1 ratio, you're generally in pretty good shape.

bbking9
08-14-2012, 01:50 PM
Sh0rtBus is right. With that motor - you want a gear ratio of about 4:1.

A 80T spur with a 20T pinion is a 4:1 ratio (80/20).

I think you'll be OK with the 48P gears that come stock. 32P gears are a little tougher - but a lot louder.

My Wraith is currently on hold until I can take the time to tear it down and find out what's causing the bind that's killing my motors.

Awaiting the arrival of a set of Dark Soul 1.9 beadlocks for my MRC and trying to figure out where to get some Rover Red Dots without having to spend $20 for shipping. Was going to use RPP, but it was going to cost me like $25 for regular shipping for the Rovers and TTC's for my micro Trekker. Hoping I can find a better option.

Sh0rtBus

Meh....picked up a set of 1.9 Chisels at Mike's for $40, so it's all good. Not as cheap as the rovers, but no shipping, either, so cheaper in the end. And as recommended over at RCC, a very close 2nd to the rovers, so I'm satisfied....for now.

Driveshafts - MIP

I recently had a Holmes Torquemaster 27T put in my wraith and now when it gets bound up or try to crawl up something it sounds like the motor is working but the tires don't move. It may be the slipper. Tighten it up AS MUCH AS YOU CAN.

Howdy, Gents! Sorry I haven't been around much lately. Trying to get settled into my new job here in Plano.....right down the street from Arbor Hills, too. Still ahven't torn down my Wraith yet, but maybe in the next coulpe weeks. Just ordered gears for my 1:1, so everything else is on the back burner right now financially. Still, though, $550 for 5.13s with overhaul kits isn't too bad of a deal. Now to spend a Saturday installing them....with help of course. Wait...what am I talking about? I AM the help!

Anyway, hope to be back full swing soon. Need to hit up the trails again.

Been having a weird (to me) issue with my wraith recently. The throttle just wont work sometimes, but I can still turn the steering servo back and forth. Then the it will work fine for a few secs then back to the no throttle response issue. Any ideas? I'm going at Hot Springs offroad park next weekend and heard they have a RC course there so I would like to get this resolved by then.

It could be your esc or your motor starting to go out .check all your connections and if that's not it do you have another esc and motor to try out and see if one of those are the prob

Most likely just some dirt between the brushes and com on the motor, or the brushes are worn down and need to be replaced if possible.

Ace ha e you looked at the "music angel" little boxes? They are the perfect size, CHEAP, take a SD card or play radio stations and are LOUD for their size.

The music angel looks great, when I get the Bully Wraith going I might have to pick one up. The blue speaker system didn't work very well.

Has anyone running with scale "king" shocks in their wraith? If so how do you like them?

I run that stock one's and they work great. Maybe someone can chime in about the King like scale shocks. Ric, how's your Wraith build coming along?

Just down the road from you in Fort Worth, welcome to the forum. Sounds like a nice parts list so far. Check out the "DFW Crawlers" section, that's where most of the scale/Wraith guys hang out on here. We run pretty regularly at Murrell Park (lake Grapevine) and a few other areas. Hope to have a chance to meet at a future get together.
